Aarona Lopez, the creator/host of Velvet Circus, was born and raised in Chicago. In 2006, she exploded on the comedy scene. She began enhancing her skills behind the mic by studying at Second City-Chicago, The Annoyance Theater and, later, iO West in Los Angeles. Less than six months after she picked up stand-up, she became a working comic and was selected as a "New Face" in Jamie Foxx's Laffapalooza Comedy Festival in Atlanta. Since then, she has performed internationally, written for MTV’s Hip Hop Squares, and been a semi-finalist in NBC’s StandUp For Diversity. Aarona graduated from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a Bachelors Degree in Journalism. She is influenced by Margaret Cho, Roseanne, Robin Harris, Martin Lawrence and Chris Rock.
