You might know this comedian from…
Gina Yashere's sell out live appearances are legendary. Her bombastic delivery, infectious personality, and cheeky observations have wowed audiences not just in the United Kingdom, but also in America, Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Montreal, South Africa, and all over Europe.
Yashere hails from London via Nigeria and shoots from the hip. Her unique take on being both cultural inside and outside never fails to raise the roof. Following an early career as an elevator engineer, Yashere made her comedy debut at the Edinburgh Festival in 1995. The shows sold out almost immediately and overnight. Both audiences and critics alike were smitten.
Yashere continues to take the comedy world by storm and is now one of the most highly sought after comics in the country, making numerous appearances on television, radio, and the big screen. Her television appearances have included the MOBO Awards as a host, The Lenny Henry Show, and Comic Relief Does Fame Academy. Radio shows have ranged from her own BBC radio London show to Radio 2's critically acclaimed The Powder Room. Feature films have included Kiss Kiss and Mr. In-Between. She has appeared on the West End theater in The Vagina Monologues.
If all that were not enough, she has even managed to find the time to write several plays for BBC Radio 4 and sketches for Richard Blackwood's Channel 4 series in the United Kingdom. In fact, it's a wonder she found the time to pick up her third award in a row for Best Female at the recent Black Tie Comedy Awards in the United Kingdom. A storming performance on American television's Last Comic Standing in 2007 led to Yashere becoming the first British comic to appear on HBO's Def Comedy Jam. As a result, Yashere has found herself the toast of the Hollywood Hills and is now based stateside.
